It was an amazing day at Stratton today for Shaun! With the weather fully moved out and the sun settled into its place, conditions for the pipe couldn't have been better. As Shaun ran to the hill to get in some practice laps this morning, everyone in the crowd could see his determination. This was his pipe.
As semi-finals came and went, Shaun found himself at the top of his game with a solid qualifying run of back-to-back 1080's, with a signature 5 thrown in for good measure. But that was qualifying and when the finals arrived, the field was looking to take him out.
But Shaun was ready! Dropping into his first run, the sun was out, the pipe was perfect and Danzig was blasting over the speaker. The place erupted, and so did Shaun. Kicking off his run with HUGE back-to-back 1080's and then into the biggest frontside 540 anyone has seen from him, straight into a giant McTwist to ally-oop rodeo to frontside 900 on his list hit! The place went bananas!
That run put Shaun on top and he stayed there the rest of the afternoon, taking the victory in Pipe and clinching the US Open Overall title. Can anyone say new Volvo!
All in all it was an amazing weekend for Shaun. He now sits tied for the most victories at the US Open ever and there are more to come! Now it's off to celebrate. Check back for tons of photos from the contest, the nightlife and everything in between!
