As the wind and the snow blew into Stratton, VT for the US Open, Shaun White was ready for action! With the slopestyle course resembling more of a skating rink than a snowboard contest, it was gnarly to just HIT the jumps!
But Shaun was ready for it. Up early and lapping, he dialed his run in through the qualifiers and then into the finals. The clouds that had plagued the mountain for the early part of the day finally blew out and the sunny, blue Vermont skies shown themselves in all their freezing majesty. Even the trees were frozen; literally, they were caked with ice from the previous days rains. So despite the conditions, Shaun rocked it like a hurricane.
Dropping into his first run of the finals, he went into the upper rail section, going 270 on the top rail to nosepress on the second rail and then was into the jumpline. Coming in switch to the first hit he went cab 900 to backside 900 to switch back 900 to frontside 1080 to end it.
That first run put him in the top spot and from there he wouldn't even be touched. But that didn't mean he wouldn't step up his game. Shaun's second run was even better than his first going cab 1080 to switch backside 900 to fs 1080 to backside 720!
As things settled out, it was Shaun all alone at the top, dropping in for a fun victory lap with all of Stratton cheering him on! Check back for updates as Shaun looks to clinch the SUPERPIPE tomorrow!
