It was brutally cold this morning for Superpipe qualifying in Breckenridge, CO. The wind was howling and the temps were sub zero by more than a few degrees. It was a feat of strength and a strength of feet to even survive until your qualification run.
After an early morning practice session, multiple delays pushed the day well into the late afternoon and as the sun ducked lower behind the Rockies Shaun White dropped into his first run of the day. Blasting huge out of the pipe, a solid combos of 9's and 10's put him into the third place spot and a place in the Finals for Sunday.
But that just wasn't quite the run that Shaun wanted, so on his final
qualifying run of the day, with the frigid winds whipping across the
pipe, Shaun dropped in and blasted the biggest backside rodeo the crowd
had seen all day. Everyone held their breath as he re-entered the
earth's atmosphere and put it down right in the transition and wrapped
up the rest of his run with some solid combo'd 9s and a 10 at the
bottom. That run bumped him into the top spot for qualifications and
giving him the last run of the day in tomorrow's Final!
