QUARTERPIPE
On 9 pm on Tuesday night Shaun got a call from contest organizers saying that someone had been injured and there was an open spot in the X Trail and it was his if he wanted it. At 10 pm Shaun booked a ticket to Tokyo for the next morning. At 4 am he was in a car on the way to the airport, and at 8 am he was in the air on the way to Tokyo. It was as last minute as it could be and there was no other way Shaun would have it!

The Nissan X Trail is the super bowl of snowboarding in Japan. Its brings in 75,000 people over two days to the Tokyo dome. Lights, lazer shows, live TV, crazy set ups, screaming cheering (sometimes crying fans)! It's madness!

Saturday was the Quarterpipe where Shaun White took on 10 of the top riders from around the world. Only 11 riders are invited to the X Trail each year and it is an honor to be part of this event for all that are here.

Terje Haakonsen was putting on a show for the crowd all night long with huge straight airs, backside threes, and his classic style Mctwists. Nicolas Muller was on it with huge Mctwists and frontside spins. Kevin Pearce came in fifth place with backside rodeo sevens, backside rodeos, large Japan Mctwists and frontside 7s. But in the end Shaun took the first place and killed it throughout the whole night with massive Mctwists, alley oop rodeo 7s, alley oop rodeos, frontside 1080s, frontside fives and keeping all his airs huge and clean. The crowd was going crazy and at one point 30,000 people were chanting his name getting ready to see him drop in for his runs in the super final. Yeah, it was that kind of night!

BIG AIR
Even the judges at this event are legends. The judges this year were Ingemar Backman, Jamie Lynn, Bryan Iguchi, and Michi Albin. If you are going to have judges, these guys are the ones to have.

The Big Air on Sunday brought in over 60,000 people to watch the best riders in the world hit the scaffolding jump inside the Tokyo dome. Once the fireworks and laser shows were over the crowd was pumped and going nuts to see their favorite riders throw down. Everyone in this event is so good its hard to judge since so many tricks get landed and everything is incredibly difficult.

In the end, after three jam sessions and a super final it was Shaun White coming in third place. He came so close to putting down a cab 1260 in the super final but there just wasn't enough hang time off the jump for him. So next run he stomped a huge clean cab 1080 to finish off the event and to get him into 3rd place for the event and to take to overall TTR World Tour points for the weekend, upping his World Tour rank and tightening the race for the title that will push from now until March.
