News > Shaun White Stomps Slopestyle!

It was the kind of day that makes you happy you have heat. Bitter, biting and a few other "b" words kicked of the second stop of the Dew Tour at Mt. Snow today.

Shaun White was coming off of a win in Slopestyle at the first stop as well as a hearty meal of shredding over the Holiday break., so he was ready for whatever Mother Nature had to offer. Back on the East Coast for the first time this year, the word was out and the crowd was MASSIVE!

Kicking off the day with an 8am "out the door", the cold course was waiting for all the riders. It took everyone a few warm up runs to actually warm up. But as the contest flared to a start, Shaun was sitting in the "Drop Last" position from his win at Breck, leaving him to watch the rest of the field set the marker.

The course layout took a deviation from the standard format with a new look and feel that allowed for some rider creativity in their runs. Starting at the top, the course went, flat rail to up-flat-down rail, into a big standalone booter, into a jump with a box jammed into the takeoff, into the down rail and finishing with two showtime booters for the crowd.

It was a course that just kept going. As the field dropped in, spins abounded and it was shaking out that everyone came to ride. Riders were stomping their runs, which meant Shaun had to step it up. As Shaun got ready to drop in for his first run, Torstein Horgmo put down a huge switch backside 1260. It was time for him to go for it.

The crowd swelled as he dropped in, angling for a view, and knocking out the rail features at the top, it was in to the big first booter stomping home a cab 900 and then setting him up for a trick that was his signature for the day, where he slid the box off the jump and then blasted off the top into a huge backside rodeo.

From there it was on, stomping the down rail and then into backside 900 and finishing it with a cab 1080 on the final jump. As he sprayed into the coral at the bottom of the run, the crowd went wild! The scores came in and put Shaun into second place and he was pumped, because with one more run left, he knew he had a chance to take it.

As he dropped in for this final run, he was still sitting in second place, so it was time to rally for first. Changing up his spin off of the first jump, he stomped a switch backside 900 and then again boosted off of the box-jump into a backside rodeo, and has he pointed it into the final two kickers, everyone was watching. He blasted off the first kicker, uncorking a cab 1260 but just sketching out on the landing a bit and then into a frontside 900 at the final booter. When he got down to the bottom, he knew that the 12 would have gotten him the victory, but for today 2nd was a great place to be in.

All in all, it was a great day to be at Mt. Snow, VT. There is nothing like a contest where the crowd really gets into it and today the fans were the best! Big thanks to everyone that came out to watch the contest and braved the weather and we will see you all at Superpipe tomorrow night for the Final!

Watch it LIVE on NBC at 4pm EST!

To whoever was wondering, it's Danny Davis who wore yoga pants. Shaun's turn was next-to-last, so he let it down in honor of Danny who was to ride immediately after him. Hey Shaunshaun, I saw you do that gesture on camera while you were sitting in the waiting area on top, and I felt you were addressing to me in particular. It seems you were symbolizing bibs to show me how much you appreciate my love for you and want me to get back on my snowboard.
